300 Block of Quincy Street
300+ Qunicy St |
The 300 block displays a
variety of metal, wood, and masonry building materials. Particularly dramatic is the wide
pressed-metal cornice, with spheres, dentils, modillions, and brackets, at 321 Quincy.
This 3-storv building was erected in 1906.
Notice the wooden false-fronted commercial buildings on
the south side of this block . A false front was an inexpensive way to give a building
(especially a gable-fronted building) a substantial commercial appearance.
325 Quincy, with its elaborate doorway, was constructed in
1901 as a steam laundry and residence. Alternating rough-faced and smooth sandstone give
this building an unusual texture. |
