This Art Deco
building was completed in 1939 and served-as the home office of the Detroit & Northern
Michigan Savings & Loan Association from 1939-72. The building's design inspired the
confidence of clients and represented the success of a local business that eventually
built branch offices throughout Michigan.
Contrasting white Bedford limestone and black granite provide
structure for the streamlined surfaces, vertical elements, and stylized geometric motifs,
which celebrate the Art Deco design popular in the 1930s.
The interior, originally finished in marble and walnut, is bathed
with light from the high windows.
