2008 Bridgefest Celebration
June 14, 2008
June 12-14, brought the 21st Annual Bridgefest Celebration, with a huge Parade, the Houghton Rotary International Seafood Fest, the MTU Triathalon, and many other activities.

Hancock Rotaryís Fun Fest, held at the Hancock Ramada Inn, on the waterfront. The areaís Noteworthy Players Chorus. Ice cream, anyone? The Keweenaw Memorial Hospital float and the Bridgefest Band.
Martyís Goldenaires Drum and Bugle Corps, from the Bessemer, MI Legion Post No. 27. 50 years of helping take care of local children, the MTU Pre School float. Calumet Elks Lodge 404 float. The Magic of Costumes.
A contingent representing the Quincy Mine Hoist Association, followed by the great MTU Pep Band. The Thimbleberry Tarts, promoting a Bridge to Friendship. This float, by families and supporters of our MI National Guard Units, Calumet & Baraga, who will deploy in August overseas for their second combat duty tour. Our thanks and best wishes for a safe return go with them. The annual Keweenaw Chain Drive Races are under way on Saturday morning, with 16 miles and 32 mile events over demanding courses.
The annual Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce Fishing Derby on the Hancock Waterfront. New this year, the Hancock Rotary International Fest, at the Ramada Inn. Among the events, a Celebrity Hot Dog Eating Contest. Among the contestants, (seated, L) WLUC TVís Jennie Jewel; WMPL Radioís Mitch Lake, and Mary Jane Shultz, and others. The 2nd annual MTU Tennis Triathalon gets under way Sunday morning at the Hancock Recreation and Campground Area (a change from last years site), as MTU Tennis Head Mike Axford sounds the starting horn for the initial swimming portion Contestants then biked to McLeans State Park and back, then ran a course through the City streets.
