CITY OF HANCOCK RECYCLING INFORMATION

Once a month curbside residential pick-up is available the last Thursday of every month.

NEWSPAPER:
This means newspapers and the inserts (ads) that come with them ONLY! They need to be bundled or put into clear plastic bags. We do not accept plastic or paper bags for recycling. We also do not accept junk mail or office paper for recycling.

MAGAZINES: 
High gloss magazines and catalogs ONLY! We do not accept books, mixed paper, and phone books or semi-gloss paper. These need to be bundled or put into a clear plastic bag.

CARDBOARD:
Clean, dry corrugated cardboard ONLY! We do not accept cereal boxes, cigarette cartons, 12-pack boxes, pizza boxes or any similar paper-type cardboard, and no shiny cardboard. All cardboard should be flattened; staples removed and bundled together.

PLASTIC: 
Translucent milk jugs marked with #2 HDPE ONLY! Must remove the caps and plastic rings. Milk jugs should be rinsed out thoroughly. We do not accept any other type of plastic (clear, white or colored) containers. Milk jugs need to be tied together or put into clear plastic bags.

METAL: 
Clean tin cans, metal jar lids, and foil products ONLY! Remove the labels and then place the cans into clear plastic bags.

 

Drop off recycling is available weekly at Waste Management, Inc.; 1108 Enterprise Drive; Houghton. (South of Sharon Ave, located across the street from Charter Cable offices). Hours are: Tuesdays: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; & Thursdays: Noon to 6 p.m.

Recycling is a cost effective way to reduce your need to purchase Hancock City garbage bags (also available at City Hall).

THE CURBSIDE RECYCLING DAY IS THE LAST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH.
