Heikinpaiva Celebration 2006
The mid winter celebration in the Keweenaw, Heikinpaiva, brought many people out, in good weather, to the week long events and activities. For more information, you can visit the official Heikinpäivä Web site

Saturday, January 21, the Tori Market opened early in the Finlandia University Finnish-American Center, with many things to see and look at, as well as purchase. This unidentified accordionist played for the crowd.

A major theme this year, was the making of large scale "mittons", produced at the Hancock Community Arts Center. Here, Dick Walrath, and C.A.C. Director Cynthia Cote, display one of the mittons.

The annual Heikinpaiva Parade, also on Saturday, began with the Hancock High Jr. ROTC Color Guard. As it happened, several days later, Co. A & C, Army National Guard, Calumet, Baraga, and Gladstone, came back home after a 14 month active war duty deployment to Iraq.
