2006 Houghton County Fair
The 55th Annual Houghton County Fair ran August 24-27, at the Hancock Fairgrounds and Driving Park.

There expanded parking areas this year along with more carnival midway space, for the Schmidt Amusements Carnival, on hand for their 25th year. Here, a Merry-Go-Round ride is enjoyed by the younger crowd.

Thursday evening began with the Miss Houghton County Queen Pageant, with the announcement by M/C Radio Personality Mitch Lake, that our new Queen is Kiersten Birondo. She is being crowned by 2005 Queen, Mengya Li.

Also Friday afternoon were the Ruth E. Best Homemaker of the Year & Open Class Exhibits Awards. The 2006 Homemaker of the Year went to Agnes Ahola, of Dollar Bay.

Saturday afternoon was horseshoe pitching time, with a celebrity contest between the Cities of Houghton and Hancock.

Watching over the Saturday evening activities were Fair Queen Kiersten Birondo (2nd from R); 1st Runnerup Leann Macomber (3rd from R); and 2nd Runnerup Kailee Laplander ,R; and other Queen Candidates this year.

Sunday afternoon was time for the Demolition Derby, with a multitude of entries this year. A bang-up good time! Join us next August for the 56th Annual Houghton County Fair, in Hancock, MI.
