Former Scott Hotel Under Renovation
The former Scott Hotel building has come under new ownership. Construction and renovations are under way to update and convert the  building. Commercial tenants will occupy the ground floor, with the rest of the structure being used for senior citizen low income single and two bedroom apartments.

December brought a finish to the inside renovations and construction, and an Open House for the public. Owner Mike Lahti and his wife Sharon greet the public in the Lobby.

A long time in the making, the former Scott Hotel now has a new life as a Senior Citizens apartment complex. Mike and Sharon Lahti can be proud of the job theyve done, in restoring a long time, mostly vacant building, to reuse.

With the securing of Federal grants, and loans, work continued through the winter on interior remodeling of the upper floors into what will be senior citizen living quarters. Work this spring began outside on the North side with an excavation to enlarge the furnace/boiler room, and to add this new smokestack/chimney.

All new windows have been installed, and a side door, an original part of the original Scott Hotel, but sealed off for some 30 years, has been reinstalled for senior citizen access.

Summertime saw the completion of the ground floor commercial space, with only one unoccupied rental area. This view looks west along Quincy St.

September brought the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to town, bearing a check for $2.8 Million. At the presentation ceremony, Hancock Mayor Barry Givens expresses his hope for the future of the building.

And finally, Micheal DeVos, Executive Director of MSHDA, hands over a loan check for $2.8 Million, which will constitute over half of the $4.2 Million in rehabilitation work to be done. The Scott building will house both commercial and retail units, along with four upper floors of senior living quarters.

By the end of November, two businesses had opened their doors, occupying the west side of the first floor, with work continuing on the first floor east side, and upstairs
