A long time in the making, the
former Scott Hotel now has a new life as a Senior Citizens apartment
complex. Mike and Sharon Lahti can be proud of the job theyve done,
in restoring a long time, mostly vacant building, to reuse. |

With the securing of Federal
grants, and loans, work continued through the winter on interior
remodeling of the upper floors into what will be senior citizen
living quarters. Work this spring began outside on the North side
with an excavation to enlarge the furnace/boiler room, and to add
this new smokestack/chimney. |

All new windows have been
installed, and a side door, an original part of the original Scott
Hotel, but sealed off for some 30 years, has been reinstalled for
senior citizen access. |

September brought the Michigan
State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to town, bearing a check
for $2.8 Million. At the presentation ceremony, Hancock Mayor Barry
Givens expresses his hope for the future of the building. |

And finally, Micheal DeVos,
Executive Director of MSHDA, hands over a loan check for $2.8
Million, which will constitute over half of the $4.2 Million in
rehabilitation work to be done. The Scott building will house both
commercial and retail units, along with four upper floors of senior
living quarters. |
