Community Arts Center
In 1996, The City of Hancock, MI, was chosen as one of the ‘100 Best Small Arts Towns in America’, in a book written by John Villani, a respected arts and travel writer who lives in Santa Fe, N.M. Hancock was ranked 70th. The author cited the Community Arts Center (CAC), with its Kerredge exhibition gallery & well stocked sales gallery, and the Suomi College Finnish-American Heritage Center gallery as two important reasons for placing Hancock in the Top 100 Best list.

Celebrating their 26th year, the Copper Country Community Arts Council (CCCAC) continues to bring people and the arts together in the Copper Country. The CCCAC, which conceived & developed the Community Arts Center, has a long tradition of providing quality programs & events like the Copper Country Gallery Exhibition held each spring at the Walker Theater on Michigan Tech’s campus. Young students are introduced to the arts through week long exploration in visual art & photography, drama, creative writing, music, & creative movement in the annual Summer Arts Camp. The Poor Artist’s Sale, held the first Saturday in December, is an annual holiday show that is now a major shopping and social event. Art in the Garden is a blossoming show of local talent, both in the garden, & in the arts.
